Logos On Banners –

Roller banners are a great marketing tool. They are easy to assemble, easily stored and compliment other marketing tools. When designed correctly, they can be eye catching and a great informational point for potential customers. Often referred to as roll ups, pull ups or pop ups, the roller banner can be a great addition to your marketing tool kit. If this is your first experience of designing a large format banner it can be a daunting experience.

With a banner so large you can fit a lot of information on it right?! Wrong! Banners are designed to attract attention from a far therefore logos, and headings, should be large and readable from a distance. Any imagery or support text should also be large. If you do not have a professional graphic designer to help you, you will need to think through what this means before you are ready to produce your banner design.

When designing your roller banner make sure your logo is large and at eye level. Simply scaling up your existing logo is unlikely to work very well. Below are a few things to consider.

Make the logo bigger! Scaling issues

The first problem many people run into with their logos on banners is that they too small to be used on something so large. This is probably because it wasn’t designed with large banners in mind and not needed until now. Many companies design their own artwork, or commission a small scale version, to be used on letterheads, business cards and websites. Most of the time this is of little importance, as you will probably be using the same sized image over and over again on small scale marketing material. However, when it comes to making it significantly bigger, you are likely to run into serious problems and find that it looks really pixelated and unprofessional. There is only one answer to this problem and that is to reproduce your logo using scalable vector graphics.

There are several pieces of software that can help you achieve this and it’s not as hard to master as you might think. If you need that larger logo in a hurry, however, it may well be worth your while to bring in professional help. Our onsite design team would be happy to help you with this. Design to compliment the shape

Consider the useable space. Roller banners are typically portrait orientation, tall and narrow in shape. In most cases it will be much narrower than the places you will have been using your logo previously. This affects how your logo draws the eye and how balanced it looks within the available space.

Top Tip: Scale it to around 60% of the width of the roller banner and leave about four inches of ‘whitespace’ (or whatever colour you have chosen for your background) at the top. This will make it stand out more than simply making it as large as it can go of the design.

Combat colour changes

Making a logo bigger often means its colours create a different impression. In particular, pastel colours that may look good on a small scale can look faded and washed out when scaled up. You may need to darken your colour scheme slightly. When it comes to logos on banners, ensure they stand out.

Top position

Place the logo in the top third of your design. Preferably at the very top about 4 inches from the top. Make sure that your logo is the first thing potential customers see, and from a distance. It lets customers know who you are and that the following information has been prepared by you for them.
