Variable Data Printing
Variable Data Printing allows you to have individual elements on every single item in your print run. This is perfect for adding serial numbers, unique barcodes, QR codes and more. You can even use it to individually address flyers and leaflets to specific customers – helping you create a personal connection and encouraging brand loyalty.
With variable data printing (often referred to as variable information printing (VIP), variable imaging (VI) and sometimes variable data publishing) you can add individual text, digits and images to every product in your print run.

How is variable data printing achieved?
For every VDP print run you have a base artwork file. That is the artwork template of your design which will remain the same for every product in the print run – i.e your artwork, core text etc. You also provide us with a set of individual data (the variable data) – which could be addresses, codes, graphics etc. Using digital print software the two are printed at the same time onto each product. This saves the customer a lot of time and effort!
How do I set up a VDP print run for text?
Provide your static artwork design and a spreadsheet (saved as a CSV file) with the unique elements.
What if I want to print unique images on each item?
Printing variable images is no hassle at all; simply add each image’s file name within your database, and send us a folder file with all your image files as well as your static artwork file and your database file.
If you have any trouble, our experts are always happy to help – just drop us a line.
I want my VDP elements in a specific place…
That’s fine! Leave a note with your order at the checkout stage or add placeholder text / graphics on a different layer to the rest of your core design, if you’re using Photoshop, Illustrator etc. We will be in touch to send a digital proof of your final design – this will show you exactly where we plan to put your VDP elements. It you’re not happy, just let us know!
